Remember those days fondly. Of course, I was following the Red Sox and their disappointments. After '75, anyone that beat the Reds was good for me. Stargell was awesome! They had a team of great names I still remember - Bibby, Blyleven, Parker, to name a few.
Enjoyed reading the post. My son attends CMU in Pittsburgh and I am planning to go to the new stadium this upcoming fall. Will be fun to see the statues :)
The whole stadium is so well done. Don't forget Richie Zisk, Al Oliver, and the answer to my favorite trivia question of all time -- who is the only modern era player to go 7-7 in a 9-inning game (Rennie Stennett, and his bat is in the Hall of Fame near Stargell's uniform)
Great post Hal, I love "The exact moment is frequently clouded by tears, your heart broken by a team that you know will return again, next season, deserving of another shot at your affections."
Well done Hal! I remember in my little league days our team was brought to a Mets game. They were playing The Pirates. I was the only kid that bought a Pirates banner!! Regretfully, the Pirates lost that day.. Still a great memory!!

Being a lifetime Flyers fan, this is so true.
I think sports teams are the first form of heartbreak we know.
